This year we will be holding the Fish Legal and Angling Trust Members' Annual General Meetings in conjunction with our Future Angling Conference, available for all to attend, on Saturday 17 November 2018 at West Midlands Golf Club & The Lake at Barston, Solihull.

The Future Angling Conference is a forum dedicated to collecting the views of all anglers, as well as views from clubs, fisheries, trade and tackle shops. Feedback from this conference will be fed directly into the new National Angling Strategy (find out more information here), currently being developed by the Environment Agency to provide a framework for the development of angling over the next five years.

Anyone can attend the Future Angling Conference.

10.00 AM – Angling Trust and Fish Legal AGMs

This session is for Angling Trust and Fish Legal members only and will cover key information relating to members.

11.00 AM - Refreshments

11.15 AM - Sharing knowledge and success in angling

This session is open to everyone to attend.

We will be hearing from clubs, fisheries, coaches and volunteer bailiffs on key areas they have taken action on, working in partnership with the Angling Trust, Environment Agency and other key partners. We will look at key items including:

  • Angling Improvement Fund – investing in our sport through rod licence income
  • Coaching – looking at the success of coaching bursaries and the impact they have
  • Participation – best practice on how your club can get involved in increasing participation in our sport
  • Voluntary Bailiff Service – hear from volunteer bailiffs on the growing importance of this role in the angling community
  • Making polluters pay – an update from Fish Legal on the action we continue to take against pollution and standing up for angling.

12.15 PM - Future Angling Conference

This session is open to everyone to attend and is vitally important to the future of our sport.

  • Participate in discussions about what you think is most important for angling over the next five years:

o What should the new strategy be trying to achieve?

o Who should be responsible for delivering it?

o What will success look like?

  • Provide your views about:

o Increasing participation.

o Maximising angling’s benefits.

o The governance and funding of angling.

o The role of the EA, AT, angling trade, clubs, fisheries, coaches and youth projects.

1.30 PM – Lunch

2.30 PM – Future Angling Workshops

This session is open to everyone to attend.

Following the Future Angling Conference session we will break into two workshops – this will allow for more time to discuss views and ideas to feed into the National Angling Strategy:

  • More Fishing Workshop – This workshop will focus on how we can increase participation in Angling, getting more people to take part and enjoy the benefits angling has to offer.
  • More Fish Workshop – This workshop will focus on the work we need to do to improve fish stocks and make sure clubs and fisheries can become more sustainable.

3.45 PM – Workshop key findings

This session is open to everyone to attend.

The key findings from each of our workshops will be summarised and presented back to all attendees – everyone will leave the conference with a clear understanding on the suggested areas of focus and the key points being fed back into the National Angling Strategy.

4.15 PM - Close for main attendees
