Welcome to our monthly roundup of open competitions being held by Angling Trust member clubs for the month ahead. February can be a virtual close season for many clubs as the winter species are thin on the ground and spring still seems months away. Still, it's also the time of year when your scratch fishing skills can shine through and with good fish still coming from boats you could be in with a chance of scooping a top prize and some big money!

Angling Trust joins forces with appalled ocean rower and backs London's 'supersewer' to clean up Thames

Angling Trust boss Mark Lloyd and National Campaigns Co-ordinator Martin Salter this week joined the internationally renowned ocean rower and environmental campaigner Roz Savage in appealing for opponents of a super sewer for London to take the long-term view. Roz, who has rowed across three oceans single-handed, said: "We need to accept some short-term pain for the long-term gain."

The Angling Trust's Mark Owen represented the European Anglers' Alliance at a seminar at the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday 24 January to discuss the management of invasive alien species. On behalf of UK and European anglers, he urged the European Union to develop policies to control the spread of invasive species such as signal crayfish, floating pennywort and zebra mussels.
